The city of Oaxaca is in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Oaxaca City is on central standard time (Chicago time). The airport in Oaxaca, Xoxocotlan International Airport (OAX), is quite small and pleasant, and it is a simple matter to get a taxi from there to your hotel. You can also ask your hotel for a recommendation to prearrange a pickup.
You need a valid passport for travel from the US to Mexico. Unless you reside in Dallas or Houston, there are no direct flights to Oaxaca. For many of us, those two cities will have layovers; in Mexico, Mexico City and Guadalajara have layovers.
I have attached a list of hotels that are within walking distance from the venue. Please make sure to mention the LSWO symposium or the code (for those that have one) for a discounted rate, the list makes note of the hotels providing a discount. Some of the hotels have family suites with small kitchens, many include breakfast. Some of these hotels may have special offers on their websites.
There are many hotels, B&Bs and hostels in Oaxaca, so do not feel constrained by this list. You can create the experience you want to have.
